We do not generally appreciate tea in the West the way it is in Asia. Especially in China and Japan, there is a long history of drinking tea and with ceremony. When trying blooming tea, you want to do the same, and really take the time to appreciate it. This is not the type of tea to just drink down without thought.

Blooming tea is exactly that. It is tea that blooms. This is because it contains flowers hand sewn inside a ball of tea. As the flowers absorb the hot water poured over the ball, they are released. They then blossom into beautiful displays, reminding one of sea anemones.

But this tea is not just beautiful to the sight, it also tastes truly extraordinary. The flavor is one which is meant to be sipped and savored slowly. You can understand why tea and meditation seem to go hand and hand when you drink this beverage. The fragrance is also something special, being indescribably delicate.

No one is entirely sure how many years the Chinese have been making and drinking blooming tea. It is at least decades but may well be for centuries. Every springtime, the finest of the young tea buds and leaves are picked for blooming tea balls. The variety of tea used may be either white or green.

The types of flowers used vary for the making of blooming tea. Such variations as osmanthus, hibiscus, jasmine, lilies and chrysanthemum are among those used. Like the tea, the flowers are also picked when young as they will yield the most delicate fragrance and taste.

The making of blooming tea is not just a manufacturing process but a true art. While it starts with the selection of the finest flowers and leaves, this is just the beginning. It is when those two ingredients are combined by the artist who sews them together that you end up with the thing of beauty in your teacup.

In brewing blooming tea, it is best to use a glass container, either a cup or a pot, so you can see the flower as it unfolds. Pour the boiling water into the cup over the tea ball. It should steep for approximately five minutes. You can later reuse the ball a few times, to your taste. When done reusing, put it into a glass container with cold water so that you can display it.

Though this tea was once only for the upper class in China, it is now increasing in popularity throughout the world. You only have to do a small search online to find many companies marketing blooming tea. Look for one that has authentic high quality blooming tea.

This tea will definitely cost more per cup than your average tea. But blooming tea is anything but average, and you will know that as soon as you try it. For a caffeine high when you get up in the morning, this is not the tea to use. But for a delicate beverage that will instantly make you feel at peace at the same time as invoking your senses, blooming tea is well worth a try.
