Western food is not just burgers and fries. Western food is much more than that although burgers and french fries are in the right course. More than just fast food products from the United States, Western food can be dishes from Europe or the non-indigenous menu of North America, Australia, Oceania, and Latin America.
Western dishes can also be Australian fare. This is because the cuisine Down Under was influenced by the people who inhabited country, which were composed of the British colonists in the late 18th century. Therefore, Australian menu began to reflect the influences of Western food along with Asian cultures.
But of course, aside from Western food, Australia still keeps dishes that are viewed as indigenous and popular to them. Unmistakably Aussie fares include the breakfast food Vegemite, the favorite take-away snack fish and chips, the ANZAC biscuits, and the pavlova cake, all are viewed as national foods but also have origins in New Zealand.
Western food in Australia includes a variety of dishes that can be seen in other lands, such as baked lamb shank, grilled rib-eye, burgers, fried chicken, grilled salmon, baked rice, grilled fish, grilled chicken, and pizza and pasta.
Asian cooking also have infiltrated the nation. The differences between Western and Asian dishes are unmistakable. While meat is lavishly used in Western menu, it is only a part of a meal in Asian preparation. Asian foods serve meats in same or lesser proportions than the other ingredients, while in Western cuisine, they are the main star of the show.
Rice is viewed as a side dish in Western fare. They are categorized alongside corn on the cob, steamed vegetables, and mashed potatoes. But in Asian dishes, they are the main part. If rice is not available, then noodles must be.
But in both Asian and Western dishes, condiments are extravagantly used. Table settings, no matter if its Western or Asian dominant, include soy sauce, gravy, mustard, catsup, vinegar, and many more.
But perhaps the most recognizable difference between Asian and Western cuisine is the serving sizes. Serving size in Western dishes is ordinarily and considerably more plentiful than the traditional Asian fare.
You can observe these differences and much more when eating in a nation like Australia, where diversity is noticeable.
